SKIN DEEP and the Community

SKIN DEEP DAY SPA CELEBRATES PRESTIGIOUS DIAMOND AWARD BY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Skin Deep Day Spa in Huntington Beach is celebrating winning Day Spa Magazine’s prestigious 2008 Diamond Award for spa excellence in its usual fashion: by giving back to the community. “We want to help people take care of themselves and loved ones in these challenging times,” says owner and founder Deborah Woods. “A short break to relax and re-energize can go a long way to helping people survive stress. And when we provide a way to also give to a worthy cause, we strengthen our community even more.” So Woods is offering Diamond Celebration “Helping Hands” specials that include donations to the Huntington Beach Boys and Girls’ Club “Building Dreams” campaign.

For over 17 years, Woods’ mission has been to strengthen the community by both strengthening its individual members, and by actively participating in local charitable activities. Winning the Diamond Award validates her guiding principle that it is possible to provide resort spa quality at affordable prices, offering not only a relaxing, refreshing retreat from busy lives, but education on skin care, wellness and community activism.

Skin Deep has always promoted environmental awareness, and leads the way in becoming a totally green spa. Every aspect of the spa is carefully planned to assure that it fulfills its mission of giving the gift of touch and renewal to each guest. Woods carefully tests and researches every product used in spa treatments or sold in the boutique. Seeing clients driving miles away in stressful traffic for mineral water treatments, Woods designed the spa’s crown jewel, the five-stage Zen Water Experience re-mineralization and water relaxation treatment.

Every year, Skin Deep chooses one charity to support throughout the year, both by hosting specific events and by offering patron donation specials in the spa and online. This year, she has selected the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington Valley Building Dreams campaign to build a Boys & Girls Club on the Golden West College campus, the first of its kind in California. The organization hopes the new facility will inspire children to want to go on to college, and to promote greater family involvement in education.  Community Commitment

Skin Deep’s commitment to wellness and renewal goes beyond our doors to our community. We practice our principles of harmony and connectedness through active community outreach and support of local schools, health and wellness causes, and community organizations. Each year, we review the many requests for donations and support we receive, and select as many as possible to receive donations.
We are also honored to serve as partners or donation centers for other organizations and invite our clients to participate with us in their support.

This year, we were pleased to partner with Working Wardrobes, an organization that collects gently worn career clothing for women who are re-entering the workplace and need wardrobes to look professional. Thanks to support from our Skin Deep patrons, we were able to provide a wide range of clothing and accessories for these deserving women.

Skin Deep the Body Spa Spa Shows the Power of Community Giving
At Skin Deep Day Spa in Huntington Beach, the passion for giving back to the community is greater than skin deep. It’s embedded in the company’s philosophy of loyalty, gratitude and teamwork. “Those are the words we live by in our daily work,” says owner Deborah Woods. “They also guide us when we create partnerships for service to the community.” She believes that networking with other Orange County businesses to benefit charitable organizations strengthens not only each business, but the community as a whole. Woods put that philosophy into action when her spa spent one weekend helping two organizations raise over $1,000.

Skin Deep’s newly expanded Zen Garden area and the unique Zen Water Experience, a 5-stage water treatment journey, now afford greater creativity in designing fundraising packages and events. On May 30 and 31, the spa participated in the Orange Coast Region Porsche Club of America’s White Gloves Concourse that included a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC). Woods offered a package worth $150, with $25 of each package going to CHOC. She also donated ten percent of the fees of guests who booked a spa treatments to CHOC.

On Sunday, June 1, she also hosted a thank you party for the Par for Parkinson event’s sponsors, with food donated by Lazy Dog Cafe and Corner Bakery. The event, held in the Zen Garden, netted over $700.00 in donations to Par for Parkinson’s. In addition to the Zen Fest hosted by Woods, multiple raffles and raffle prizes raised over $1500 for to the Par for Parkinsons Charity Fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the Keck Medical School of USC.

Skin Deep’s services are popular auction items for charity fundraisers. In May, Skin Deep teamed with KOCE for their online and live auction. For Coastline Community College’s Visionary of the Year Awards Gala, Skin Deep also hosted a Zen Water Experience for members of the Volunteer Committee, in addition to donating spa services to their silent auction. Monies raised will benefit student scholarships and enhanced programs and services for Coastline students.

For over 17 years, Skin Deep has been actively involved in giving back to the community, and Woods receives hundreds of requests for donations per year. Woods has found that, by partnering with organizations to create events like these, she has more fundraising potential than any single donation she might be able to make.
